Hi Quynh,

Thanks for writing. Glad to know you all want to meet me :) But the person is usually less interesting than the author and certainly far less heroic than the narrator--who is, in effect, a creation of both the author as well as the reader.

Good luck with your papers on my book. Feel free to tell your teacher that I urge him/her to give you all "A+" !

Cheers,

Andrew

Wow is right! I'm reading my second Andrew X Pham book, starting with Eaves of Heaven and now Catfish and Mandala. I love your writing!! When I'm finished I will search for more words to explain all the things I love about these books. For now, I just wanted to tell you your beautiful, compelling, straightforward, introspective story is taking me to new heights of sharing. Thank you!

I appreciate that, Susan :)

Would love to hear what you'll be eating in VN.

The book should be out by April with a list of things a touring foodie might want to eat. I'm at home on the Mekong now, finishing up the book and fine tuning one of the original recipes. Good fun since food prices here are so low.

Have a good trip.

I'm not sure how I missed the Kickstarter campaign and interview on Diacritics in December, but I sure do want a copy of this cookbook! I love Andrew X. Pham's narrative voice and need foodie advice for my upcoming trip to Vietnam.

Hi Sydney,

Thanks for posting. Very kind of you to comment. I've forwarded your note to my father.

We'll look into how we can send a book out to you. He's having some health issues now. I will be visiting my father in March and can certainly get him to sign a book and I'll send it to you then.

I'm sure he's glad to hear from someone of his generation. Thanks again.

Cheers,

Andrew

Growing up and living thru the Vietnam war, I don't want to read about it still. It brings back memories of terror and life on the edge of death. However, after reading the sample chapter, I'm hooked.

Being a decendent of 1954 Vitnamese Northerner, I'm intrigue about life in the North then and what it was like once my grandparents and parents left for the south in 1954.

Mr Thong, your experiences give me insights about their lives in early days as refugees in their own country. Thank you for sharing your story.

Unless Andrew comes to Sydney to sign his books, could I have a signed copy send to Sydney, Australia?

I look forward to read the rest of it.
Thanks.

Andrew,

Thank you for the quick response. Sorry you no longer live around your largest fan base, but glad to read that you come back from time to time to visit with friends.

I was thinking of connecting with you more along the lines of a group discussion/Q&A with 20 - 30 book club members. Hardly the setting for someone shy. No matter. I'll press on and encourage the club to read Catfish in any event. So, look for a small spike in Portland sales (unless everyone has e-readers or goes used at Powells!).

Very best wishes for continued adventures and success along whatever roads you follow.

Hi Diane,

Thanks! It's great to hear from readers, more so from those who endured all three books. Often students are forced to read at most two :)

You're one of the few!

I'll keep you posted. Both Culinary Odyssey and A Theory of Flight should be available by April.

Happy New Year!

Cheers,

Andrew
