The Mekong just north of Vientiane, in the dry season. Notice the haze from slash and burn farming. They’re clearing entire mountains for rubber. Read about it in my next book, A Bungalow on the Mekong!

I really loved Catfish and Mandala and can’t wait to read more books by Andrew. As I read through the book I kept wondering about photos of the places. Will you ever publish a version of the book with photos? I think it would be so welcome for those of us who loved the book.

Also, as I read, I kept wishing I could be on the journey with Andrew!

      Hi Paul,

Thanks for writing. Good idea about the pics. I’ve got a shoe box full of old photos. Unfortunately, they’re films not digital so not very sharp. But when I get some time, I’ll scan them in and post them here. Actually, when CBS Morning Edition did a story on the book, I had to show them my passport and the pics to verify that I actually did do the trip :)

The funny thing is many of my high school friends and nearly all my relatives have not even read the book.

      Thanks again for posting.

      Cheers,

      Andrew
